PIIGS, An Alternative Geography of Curating

Public Programme, November 4-6, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo

The exhibition’s public programme brings together Philosophers, Curators, Writers, Activists and Artists to tease out ideas around art and economic crisis, capitalism and the ways in which artists and curators work to navigate these topics both in their practice and in their daily lives.

Friday’s talks focus on previous exhibitions that addressed the economic crisis of PIIGS countries with contributions by Escuela Moderna, a groups of artists, curators, architects & philosophers and activists who instigated the first PIGS exhibition in 2010; Michelangelo Corsi & Laura Preston from dOCUMENTA 14; and Philosopher Clara Madaro in discussion with Parasite 2.0 and Aparatus 22.
Saturday’s programme begins with discussions around the individual countries projects, a panel discussion with exhibiting artists followed by talks on theoretical aspects of each countries economic systems. IADT ARC Lecturer Sinead Hogan will address the phenomenology of debt followed by a post screening conversation with artist Fiona Marron on her film “After Automation”.
The programme concludes on Sunday with the pursuit of a common PIIGS code. Marianna Liosi will present research on “The Soectatorship of Crisis”. Emmanuel Guidi is in conversation with Oliver Ressler about his artistic practice. Mauro Folci will explore human life without capitalist accumulations and Cesare Pietroiusti will attempt to identify a common vocabulary among the PIIGS countries.
