Saturday 12 March 2016, 11am-4pm, Project Spaces, IMMA
Intarsia showcase with Liadain Aiken
Liadain Aiken will demonstrate her slow-fashion craft by knitting the statecraft logo in the intarsia technique. Liadain weaves technical knitting skills with an ability to see and create visual images ‐planning and building patterns row by row. The textures of landscapes act as a strong visual inspiration for Liadain’s knitwear. Her interest in sustainability led her to further investigate the Slow Fashion movement. These ideas have grown to become a central thread of her work ‐ she now sources wool from Donegal Yarns, believing that their traditionally spun merino yarns perfectly capture the beautiful colours of the Irish landscapes.

This event is a group listening party, where participants not only preview a podcast but hear it as an 8 channel audio sculpture. Tickets f0r Hit Parade are free but places are limited. Embroidered Identities, two-part workshop devised by Jai Thorn in collaboration with Marie Thornton
Inspired by John Ruskin’s interest in self-improvement through craft education and skill, this small group workshop introduces participants to basic embroidery techniques, and explores how these techniques can be used to personalise mass produced clothing and other textiles. The workshop is organised over two Saturday mornings and participants are encouraged to attend both sessions if possible. Participants are asked to bring with them items for personalisation and a design that can be embroidered on to the clothing. This process will be documented by Jai Thorn as part of an ongoing research project.

Ruby Wallis in conversation with ARC students.
Ruby Wallis, a current artist-resident at IMMA, will discuss her PhD research and her current practice, including recent work exhibited at Belfast Exposed. Based in an alternative community in the Burren in the west of Ireland, Wallis sought to expand the medium of photography beyond the objective gaze and monocular vision to develop new methods of mapping, and to open new areas of inquiry through lens based fine art practice. Her very recent images highlight interactions and pressure between tactile and tangible surfaces and substances that are natural or synthetic, organic or structured, intimate or abstract.
Friday 1 April 2016, 1-2pm, Project Spaces, IMMA
